Historical Documentation
Virtually everything in Italy is old; sometimes 300 to 600 years old! Documentation of historical buildings and rooms is important for Italian architecture and interior design. Any type of planned construction or redesign will have some sort of impact on a historical building, thus the documentation process of creating a virtual model of a historical room to use for cataloging the changes is critical.
The first phase of this project was to document this Baroque period room in the heart of Florence by making composites of the room. The many photos taken of the room were stitched together in Photoshop to make single images of the four walls and ceiling. The second phase was to import the composites into AutoCAD and outline all the room’s features. The CAD drawing was then imported to a 3D modeling program to scale and rendered with relief of the molding and images of the Baroque pictures. To give a sense of the size of the room, a glass mezzanine with office furniture was added as a change to the interior design, also known as an intervention.
